Exploration
Oil and gas exploration encompasses the processes and methods involved in locating potential sites for oil and gas drilling and extraction. Early oil and gas explorers relied upon surface signs like natural oil seeps, but developments in science and technology have made oil and gas exploration more efficient. Geological surveys are conducted using various means from testing subsoil for onshore exploration to using seismic imaging for offshore exploration.
Refinery
The chapter deals with products and by-products of petroleum, their uses, their refinement, and effects on the environment. Petroleum in its crude form has not much value, but when refined yields a range of products and by-products, which the humankind cannot do without. This chapter deals in detail the different stages involved in the fractional distillation of petrol to obtain each of its products and refining of each of them. The products have been classified here, based on the state they exist in, namely solid, semi-solid, liquid, and gaseous matter. The products and by-products discussed include liquefied petroleum, natural gas, shale gas, refinery gas, naphtha, gasoline, solvents, kerosene, diesel, fuel oil, lubricating oil, white oil, insecticides, grease, wax, asphalt, coke, etc.
Gas Production
Gas production in practically any country of the world is controlled by two basic groups of factors: the first group is connected with the growth of petroleum demand, the second group with the natural possibilities of meeting this demand. Explored (proved recoverable) reserves provide the highest reliable raw material basis for oil and gas production. Gas production continually represents an explored part of the total quantity of ultimate original potential resources In this manner, petroleum resources, reserves and production make up a complicated, stochastic, interconnected, geological-economic (natural-artificial) system.
Oil Production
Manufacturing oil and natural gas from wells and turning them into the final petroleum products that consumers can use. Oil and gas production includes systematic steps starting from the site exploration to actual extraction, and even up to the distribution of the products to businesses and the general public.
Clean Development Mechanism
The mechanism is seen by many as a trailblazer. It is the first global, environmental investment and credit scheme of its kind, providing a standardized emissions offset instrument, CERs.
The mechanism stimulates sustainable development and emission reductions, while giving industrialized countries some flexibility in how they meet their emission reduction or limitation targets.
